Africa has long been one of our favourite regions to explore. There is always a wealth of exciting news to unearth – from Algeria to Zambia – and we never tire of hearing it! The continent boasts some of the world's largest, oldest, wealthiest projects, and more than its share of delights yet to make major headlines. Here is a very small spattering of what has caught our eye as of late:

There is a lot of action going on in Burkina Faso in the west, where Orezone Resources (OZN:TSX) is one of many countries digging beneath the dust and sand. The company recently turned up positive results at Bombore where drilling returned two 12.0 m intervals assaying 3.38 g/t and 2.71 g/t, respectively, and where heap leach recoveries of more than 80 percent were indicated for its gold. The company also released good news from its Essakane project, where an updated feasibility study was marked by an 18 percent increase in recoverable reserves and a 16 percent increase in estimated annual production, as well a decrease in the stripping ratio and capital costs.
